give us a sign?

We asked the Park today to at least post a sign that Victoria Pool is not open since the public comes from all over the city, state and country at this time of year assuming it is open and it would be the kind thing to do. In the SARATOGIAN today and yesterday readers posted the following comments unfortunately anonymously:

OPEN THE POOLS
On Sunday I hosted a bridal shower in front of the Victoria Pool and I saw many families with children trying to walk up and enjoy the pool on these hot days. I am in favor of opening the pools now and I think many people woud agree.

OPEN POOLS
What a shame that the pools in Saratoga aren't open for Saratoga residents. As hot as it has been, you would think they would open the pools, but instead they just save them for the tourist.

Before I assumed anything I'd pick up the telephone and make a phone call rather than drive across the country (or so you say they are). Also, why would people expect the pool to be open now? It hasn't opened any earlier than mid-June since 2003! Also, do you really think a simple little sign is going to make a person feel better after they've made the trip to the pool like an idiot without checking only to find out that it's normal opening date is late June?

Where does this grand delusion about saving the pool(s), let's not forget the peerless, for only the tourists come from?

A sign at the Peerless would also be appropriate. Is there swimming for the public at Saratoga Lake?

People can always go to Moreau Lake or Grafton Lakes if swimming is a must now.

I'll repeat the question:

Where does this grand delusion about "saving" the pool(s)for the tourists only come from?

Complaining about the lack of a sign STILL does not qualify as "working tirelessly". Also, if people chose to drive from all over, wouldn't it be a sound idea to call first, regardless of the time of year? Sometimes the pool is closed for other reasons, and its not entirely fair to blame the park administration for some park-goers lack of foresight. You know what they say about assuming...

Are you saying we should put up a sign not Parks? Explain.

Louise, your heart is in the right place but I don't know where the hell your brain is.

No, why should you put up a sign it's not your responsiblity or business to get involved with the operational procedures of the park. If some outside strangers started putting up signs people would probably ignore them. I know if i saw a sign that said "pool is closed, SVPS" I'd ignore it.

What is the date the pool is scheduled to open. I cannot find any information on the scheduled opening date?

The Victoria and Peerless Pools are scheduled to open on 6/28 the latest they have ever opened since the opening year of 1935.

But 6/28 is also the first Saturday after Elementary school lets out, right in line with the traditional opening date of the past 10 years. Louise, you always seem to omit that fact- you'd think with such concern for the children of Saratoga, you would pay attention.

Why should a pool opening coincide with the closing of elementary schools? Are these multi million dollar facilities merely for the use of pre teens?

And why do beaches at lakes open on Memorial Day weekend? Are they only for adults?

IN ths part of the country, not opening a pool until the end of June is simply stupid.

You barely get two months use out of a multi million dollar facility.

And then the bureaucrats whine about losing money.

They'll lose money again this year and maybe open the pool still later next year to remedy the situation. Perhaps after the Independence Day weekend when the kiddie daycamps are in session.

Given the opportunity, these geniuses will put both pools out of business.

They have no common sense or flexibility.

You can't bring in money if your not open.

If the latest anonymous had been following along, they would have realized:

- The pools are largely staffed by school-aged workers, hence the schedule’s relation to public school calendars.

- Beaches obviously do not need to treat their water, test chemical balances or maintain pumps, filters etc...(They also are largely “stood upon”, not used for swimming during even hot memorial days, since the water remains so cold

- The whining in this situation has been largely on the side of the small group of citizens not the “bureaucrats”...in fact, again if you had followed; the state is actually trying to save money in this case

- If you look up "inflexibility" in the dictionary, it actually uses Save the Vic society as an example

Its supposed to be in the sixties next week. GREAT weather for a pool. The point is that opening pools before mid-June generally causes the State to LOSE taxpayer money. That means that money that might have gone to improvements goes to keeping open a moneywaster because a few persistent people whined enough. Do you have any idea how much it costs to run a pool (in addition to salaries- you have to pay for chemicals, electricity for the pumps, etc)? The "genius bureaucrats" really aren't looking to cheat or deprive the public- they are just doing the economically sound thing. Additionally, do you really think that insulting these people is the best way to get what you want?

We treat everyone with the utmost respect and we are all working people trying to serve others and the community.

I wish some of these anonymous posters would admit that they are the genius bureaucrats some refer to.

The vehement opposition to the opening of the pool and the remarks directed at members of "Society" make absolutely no sense unless the sources are those responsible for keeping the pool closed.

No ordinary citizen would feel so strongly that the pool be kept closed unless they were simply keyboard warriors who live to be contrary. Or they have some personal issues with members of the "society".

Either position is fine. But at least be straightforward enough to admit it instead of msquerading as some kind of "concerned citizen".

"Anonymous" above, thank you for insulting me. You don't have to be a "genius bureaucrat" to know that this society is full of clam dip and that their ideas are nothing but garbage. Private citizens read the newspapers and have for the past five years, don't you think we are sick of reading about this swimming pool all the time. It is just a swimming pool, that's all. It is not news worthy...at least no to the extent that it gets. In 2005, headlines read that the renovations were finished...so why now three years later do we still see Louise Goldstein and crew on the news and in the papers? Enough is enough! And if some of those members of the organization are blogging good for them, they have the right to stick up for themselves especially when they are called named and lied about on this blog.

Ben Gibbons says he's "sick of reading about this swimmig pool all the time" in the newspaper. Yet he takes time to deliberately visit this blog about the swimming pool.

Dude! Why would you do that? It makes no sense.

Because we are at a time in history when we really need something funny to keep us going and if you don't think this blog is a laughing stock, king sized joke then I feel sorry for you. Also it is great to see genuinely concerned people stand up to these bullies.
