How are you handling the editorial that was in today's Saratogian?

We think the letter/editor in today's Saratogian is the funniest, obviously tongue-in-cheek, letter we've ever read in print.

Thats ironic, because I find your website pretty funny, too.

The letter in today's Saratogian was sincere.
Why is BubbleBathLover worried? More people with too much free time!
Maybe some of these people should volunteer to go to Iraq and do something worthwhile!
Stop the Liberal Madness!!!!

Pickledress I am not worried, I was just curious because the editorial wasn't posted on the blog and I wanted to know the reaction. I think this organization is the most ridiculous thing on the planet don't worry. As you stated, these people have too much free time on their hands. But you have to feel sorry for them, their lives must be such empty shells that they have nothing else to do but worry about a swimming pool and how to spend money that isn't theirs. I also agree with anonymous, this entire society is a laughing stock. Maybe us normal people should form our own society and demand the complete opposite of everything this society demands. Someone should pin a medal on the man who wrote to the Saratogian. It is about time some spoke out in the press against this insanity.

sorry, bblover, letters to the editor in the Saratogian are not on-line or we certainly would have posted it.

It is so sad that the society wastes time and energy on such an unimportant cause. Think of the good they could accomplish if they devoted as much energy to worthy causes like the homeless, domestic and child abuse, stray pets, poverty, etc. It's obvious to the public that they have nothing better to do than sun themselves at a pool and without that pool, they are lost.

Wizardofodds sounds like a tout from the Track with too much free time! Listen, these Victoria Pool people may be selfish retirees, but PLEASE what we dont need is more attention to the homeless! I'm sick of them. If every penny contributed by the public & government to the homeless was cashed in, they would all be millionaires! Grow up --- some people just dont want to work, others just want the Parks commission to work, others just want u to go back to the track & win money so u can give even more to the homeless!
Poverty? We had a Liberal War on that --- what happened? Did we pull out early?

Solution to the Victoria Pool opening problem: Make the homeless open the pool on Memorial Day and close it on Thanksgiving. They can stay there over the winter. The Pool Society will be happy and homeless advocates can feel good about themselves. Hugs!

I totally agree with Pickledress. While we're at it, why does the pool cost money at all?! If tax dollars paid for it, shouldn't it be free? Let's start a petition!

save the victoria pool society said...

You're absolutely correct. We pay twice since our taxes pay for the NYS Park system. We shouldn't have to pay for the pool, to get into the rest of the park etc.

Anonymous said...

You never cease to amaze me, Louise. You demand upgrades, earlier opening dates, etc, but then refuse to pay for it? Your failure to grasp the simple economics of this situation is astonishing.

I agree, the budget for parks is $278.6 million for 176 state parks there are also historic sites and other places the money needs to go (expansion of parks, redevelopment, refurbishment, employees, etc) if pools were free we'd be paying allot more in taxes. Thats just bad business.

Zach said...

Yeah Louise, why do you say stupid things like that? Don't you ever think before you make these outrageous remarks? Don't you ever learn?

save the victoria pool society said...

Namecalling only dimishes those saying such things.

Zach said...

I didn't call you any names, I just want a simple answer from you for a change. Do you think that your statement about the pool and park being free was a logical, well thought out and intelligent statement to make? For once, will you just please answer the question without dancing around.

The New York State Legislature has needed to raise its appropriation for parks for years. That is the reason many of the parks in New York State are in such deplorable condition. We recomment the report posted at: www.ptny.org

Taxes are high enough in this state. I, for one, don't want to pay more just so Louise and her silly society can lounge at the pool. I have to work for a living and I don't have the luxery of hanging out in a state park all day. I wish this society would stop with their money spending ideas already. Don't you realize, Louise, if you get your way the money has to come from somewhere and that somewhere would be us tax payers. Please STOP!

save the victoria pool society said...

You must be kidding. We're trying to stop your taxes from being wasted.

Anonymous said...

Yes, because putting taxes toward a swimming pool is definitely NOT wasting them. If you want to swim, you PAY for the pool. That's it. By the way Louise, lovely weather for swimming this week!

save the victoria pool society said...

Starting with 90 degrees on Friday!

Ah, so you only abuse and offend your readers, but their comments are not welcomed. Sounds like discussion to me.

In case this never dawned on you not everyone in this entire state loves the Victoria Pool so the previous anonymous has a point, why should any more money be wasted than necessary. The bottom line is, opening the pool for the month of June would be a waste of money and resources. The weather has not been decent enough lately to justify being open. You seem to keep harping on that same old tune about tax money being wasted because the pool isn't open but there is a flipside to that.

I am amazed that your society is so obsessed with a swimming pool. I find that a bit disturbing. Why in the world does anyone listen to you? Scarry!
