September 5, 2008, 90 degrees and Victoria Pool closed

A perfect weather week since Labor Day, sunny and 80's and hitting 90 on Friday. All that money lost in these difficult economic times.

You know why no one ever takes you seriously? Because you can't help yourself. You can't stop. You couldn't end the summer with some class and leave it at that. No, you had to sink down to the low level you are the most comfortable at. Do you ever use your brain before you make these ridiculous statements? If the place was strapped for staff last week, why would this week be any different just because the weather has improved?

Why don't members of the stvps work park time for parks, or volunteer. this would surely make it so the pool could be open later. Lets do it!!!

Are you kidding look at that picture! They don't come to the pool to work, they come to hog all the chairs and benches and EAT!

It's a pool. Find a friend who has one or get one yourself. Get a life.... and by looking at these pictures, get on a diet.

It’s New York State. We don’t serve them they serve us. Why do you think that just being merely competent is doing a public service? If they don’t like their jobs they can all go work for the Great Escape and let’s see how long they would last in the real world. We pay money to swim Chief. When I go to the movies I don’t expect to be greeted by a volunteer. Someone should audit them to see what new toys the Park administrators drive.

“They don't come to the pool to work”

Why would we? Most of us have to work in the real world to pay taxes to support the parallel universe of State workers to keep them in the lifestyles they’d become accustomed to. Then when we do have time off we fork over money to pay for the very facilities our tax dollars paid for in the first place. Now according to you we should be grateful these State Workers got around to opening at all. Do you understand how ridiculous this all is? This whole pool is a microcosm of what is wrong with our state government. Didn’t even Governor Patterson just refer to them as “bloodsuckers”?

You see now that giant ignorance of yours is showing again. Your comments only prove that your society and cause is pointless as opposed to a group such as the "Friends of SSSP" who used their own time and resources to maintain the Hathorn Spring and also the tennis courts so that not only they but the entire world could enjoy them. You all on the other hand just take and take and take and destroy without giving a thing back, so I ask you and Governor Paterson (choke) who are the "bloodsuckers" now?

Perhaps the reason the state has such a hard time finding adequate employees (attendants, lifegaurds, cleaners) is the entitled and snobby attitude of pool-goers as evidenced in this blog. I certainly wouldn't want to work there.

Sue makes some interesting points for a CSEA spokesperson.

First trouble finding help;

Perhaps the real problem here Sue is that there’s not enough cousins nieces and nephews of full time State Workers to give these easy patronage jobs too. When was the last time anybody saw an ad for summer opening at the State Park.
What’s the problem Sue afraid some riff-raff spawn of the working class might score a job and really want to work and next think you know Sue the parties over and the little incestuous labor pool has been contaminated by the Hoi polloi. That would be freighting. Just once I would like to see one of those jobs go to an underprivileged kid who needs the money and not some preppy picking up some pocket change for the ivy league.

Next the snobby attitude of the pool goers.

Here Sue is absolutely right we can’t have these peasants demanding things like proper staffing and clean lockers think what it could lead too. Next their want proper snow plowing and accountability from State Government and that could lead to the downfall of the entire decrepit house of cards that is State government.

You're obviously very bitter and loaded with ignorant opinions instead of facts but is decent spelling, proper grammar and good sentence structure too much to ask?

Did you actually look at the pool staff by the way? If those are what preppy kids look like, I'd hate to see the underprivileged kids.

I'm sure in your neigborhood underprivileged kids are stopped at the gate. But to give you a little clue they don't look like the waifs on save the children commercials. Forgive my grammer see I was the product of a public education.

Perhaps a grammar test should be employed to keep the wrong kind of people out of the pool. I have looked at the staff and have noticed not a minority among them. Maybe if they advertised on the public housing bulletin board in Jefferson Terrace they might find many interested applicants but then again I guess there not connected to the “right people” after all someone’s got to work in fast food.

This is why people are reluctant to leave their names on their comments. This blog certainly is unfriendly. Thank you for proving my point, though, anonymous.

I always enjoy reading the comments from CSEA and the Teachers Union.

We are great, anyone who would dare criticize us is obviously either an illiterate peasant or an elitist snob.

Personally I would like to see the names and pay of the employees of the park System printed in the Saratogain just like what they did with the School teachers and City employees.

I can just imagine the chill going down their spine as they contemplate the thought.

Remember people they work for us we don’t work for them. Doing your job in a reasonable competent manner is not a favor it is a responsibility of employment. Everyone can be replaced from the Governor to the parks commissioner to the janitor.

There are life guards working everyday at the pool at Skidmore College any of them would love to pick up a few weekends in September at the park. Why? The State Park system pays a hell of a lot more then Skidmore does with less stress too.

“You're obviously very bitter”

Maybe it’s because my school Taxes are due October 3 and my government can’t even manage to keep a pool open for a reasonable amount of time. I must admit the government has a very effective Tax Collection Dept. They never miss a due date or a bill and figure what you owe right to the penny.

Why do you people think that its only park employees and union workers (previously lauded on your blog as the backbone of this country)that hate you? I am a pool-goer who has been frustrated by your hogging chairs and entitled attitude in the past. My kids and I love the pool as much as you do, I just don't agree with you, and no, I am NOT on NYS payroll. I'm sure though, as evidenced by past behavior, that you will ignore what I'm actually saying and respond with blind, inaccurate accusations.

The pool was open the entire summer so what you mean by "a reasonable amount of time" is unclear. If you mean you wanted it open this past week that is sad and pathetic it barely reached 75 degrees. It is obvious that the only thing the Victoria Pool needs saving from is the "Save the Victoria Pool Society." And you're right everyone can be replaced...that was proven in March when that disgrace of a human being the idiots in this state elected governor but unfortunately he was replaced with another low life with the same morals of a maggot. So if you have all these problems I don't feel sorry for you...you limousine liberals all voted for the Spitzer-Paterson ticket and you all got exactly what you deserved.
